The Good Samaritan Fund provides monetary assistance to those in need within the St. Michael’s church family. It is intended primarily for individuals and families who have experienced financial burdens brought on by sudden or chronic illnesses, death, financial reverses, emergencies, and unexpected needs outside of their control. It is funded by parishioners who contribute directly to the Fund, which is maintained as a separate account from other church funds.
Members needing assistance complete a simple one-page form outlining the need and hand it to a member of the clergy. All information is held confidential by the Fund Board – which includes the clergy, Fund Chairperson and three lay Board members. Requests are recommended for action by the Board after review for compliance with the Fund’s guidelines.
Donors can contribute to the fund in a general way by simply dropping a check into the collection plate with a memo designating the Good Samaritan Fund or placing cash in a pew envelope marking “Good Samaritan Fund”. You may also contribute to the Fund for the direct benefit of a specific individual or family. If you choose to contribute for a specific purpose, please first consult with the clergy, to ensure that your gift is eligible to be awarded through the Fund.
