Outreach
The Good Samaritan Fund provides monetary assistance to those in need within the St. Michael’s church family. It is intended primarily for individuals and families who have experienced financial burdens brought on by sudden or chronic illnesses, death, financial reverses, emergencies, and unexpected needs outside of their control. It is funded by parishioners who contribute directly to the Fund, which is maintained as a separate account from other church funds.
Members needing assistance complete a simple one-page form outlining the need and hand it to a member of the clergy. All information is held confidential by the Fund Board – which includes the clergy, Fund Chairperson and three lay Board members. Requests are recommended for action by the Board after review for compliance with the Fund’s guidelines.
Donors can contribute to the fund in a general way by simply dropping a check into the collection plate with a memo designating the Good Samaritan Fund or placing cash in a pew envelope marking “Good Samaritan Fund”. You may also contribute to the Fund for the direct benefit of a specific individual or family. If you choose to contribute for a specific purpose, please first consult with the clergy, to ensure that your gift is eligible to be awarded through the Fund.
Did you know that The Meals on Wheels Program for Orange County started at St. Michael’s in 1972?
“The Gathering” as it is now known, has evolved since then and it delivers a hot meal every Tuesday to the Coalition for the Homeless, in downtown Orlando. The Gathering is a unique ministry organized to feed the homeless people in the Orlando area and is sponsored jointly by the Church of the Resurrection in Longwood. Since 1990 approximately over 200,000 meals have been fed to the homeless men, women, and children through this great outreach, but it takes a lot of resources.
“Joining Hands With Love to Serve the Hungry”
We would love to have your help anytime during Monday mornings, Tuesday mornings, or Tuesday afternoons!
If you can peel a potato or pick up a serving spoon, you’re qualified. No special skills are required. One or two hours a week would be sufficient.
Your help is also needed to help load the van or serve the food at the Coalition (a great experience for your children). We load the van with food from 6:00 to 6:30 PM. Serving the food at the Coalition for the Homeless lasts from 6:30 PM to 8:15 PM.
Please contact the church office (407-843-8448) or [email protected] for more information.
The Christian Service Center is a Central Florida ministry committed to “eradicat[ing] poverty… through services and resources that foster hope, well-being and empowerment.” St. Michael’s church supports the work of the Christian Service Center (CSC) and participates in its ministry in many ways including Fresh Start, Bags of Joy and other Christian services. We encourage your participation and support of the CSC.

Our love and concern for our parish family does not end at our property line. The Share and Care committee reaches out to the St. Michael’s family who are unable to participate in regular church services. We rely on caring members whose hearts are called to assist isolated members of St. Michael’s. Volunteers need a caring heart, a listening ear and a willingness to share Christ’s love with homebound members of St. Michael’s.
If you are interested in serving in this ministry, please contact the church office (407-843-8448) or [email protected] for more information.
