Cub Scouts (Pack 207)
Cub Scout Pack 207 began more than 50 years ago at St. Michael’s. Cub Scouting involves boys from 1st grade through 5th grade. There are currently over 50 boys involved in Cub Scouting at St. Michaels. Since the 2015 program update, Cub Scouts are leaning the same Scout Oath and Scout Law as the older boys and are leaning how to apply the principles to their lives even at this early age.
Scouting at this age is a family adventure. The entire family, including siblings, is invited to participate in Pack adventures. Cub Scouts are broken out into grade-based Dens. The entire Pack meets on the first Tuesday of the month for advancements, a program and a fun activity. The individual Dens meet on the second and third Tuesdays to work on Adventures towards belt loops or pins and rank advancements.
Pack 207 recruits from Killarney Elementary, Lake Silver Elementary, Monarch, Princeton Elementary, St. Charles and St. James, although we have boys from other schools and some that are homeschooled. We are always welcoming to new faces and encourage anyone to come to a monthly Pack meeting to see what Cub Scouting is about. You can find out more by visiting Facebook and looking up @Pack207.
The Pack also participates in other events such as camping, fundraising, parades, and volunteer opportunities, including the annual Scouting for Food, the nation’s largest single day food drive. We have dedicated Adult Leaders for each Den, and the Pack overall, who provide a safe and encouraging environment for the Cubs to try new things, reach their full potential, and follow the principles of the Scout Oath and Law. The Cub Scout Motto is “Do your best”, and that is all we ask.
We have a very exciting year planned for 2017/2018. In addition to our annual Cub Halloween Nights campout at Camp La-No-Chee, Spring campout and annual end of the year party, we will be camping on the USS Yorktown in Charleston Harbor, camping at a Civil War reenactment, and taking a behind the scenes tour of Kennedy Space Center!
During the summers, the boys may participate in several Cub Scout specific Day Camps, including one right here in College Park.
Pack 207’s continued success depends on the participation of dedicated parents or family members who volunteer their time and talents to help run the Pack. We expect all adults to volunteer in some capacity during the year. We offer various opportunities for adult volunteers, each requiring different gifts, skills and time commitments.
Thank you to St. Michaels for being our chartered organization and sponsoring Cub Scouting for over 50 years! Thank you to our parent volunteers for their time and commitment to the Scouting program. Finally, Thank you to our parents for allowing us to be involved in your son’s development. His involvement in Cub Scouts will influence him for the rest of his life and his (and your) experiences will be priceless.
Yours in Scouting,
Cubmaster, Pack 207
