Our Parish Family
The St. Michael’s congregation comprises lifelong Episcopalians along with a wide range of parishioners who grew up in Protestant, Roman Catholic and Orthodox denominations. We would love for you to share communion with us and experience the long-term family that our church provides, serving God in His Church.
The Rich History of St. Michaels
In 1948 St. Michael’s was established as the first new congregation in the Orlando area since St. Luke’s, All Saints, and St. John’s. It began life in Duckworth’s Garage and soon graduated to a rented building on Edgewater Dr. The first building was built in 1951 on property acquired in 1950. This served as the church sanctuary until 1958 and it was renovated and rededicated in 1984 as Quigley Hall. A rectory was built on adjacent property, which eventually became the church office until November of 1996. In 1958 the present church sanctuary was completed. The Rev. F. Vernon Quigley conducted the first service there and served until his retirement in June 1986. There were years of rapid growth paralleling development in the area. During the Summer of 1998 the installation of the Walker Harris Organ built by Andover Organ Company, Methuen, Ma. was completed. In 2002, the west end of the church was completely renovated, and we were Blessed with the addition of a new Rose Window.
The Vestry
The mission of St. Michael’s vestry is to seek God’s guidance in our work to build community, act in concert with the rector, and pursue our responsibilities and goals in accord with the core values and mission statement of St. Michael’s.
Our objectives are to:
- Maintain a sound fiscal standing.
- Support and help St. Michael’s organizational structure by providing leadership and funding for guilds/committees.
- Bring new members to St. Michael’s.
- Expand the number of active parishioners.
- Maintain the current physical plant of the church.
- Use and design space in keeping with St. Michael’s key needs and goals.
- Timely communicate key decisions and opportunities to the parish.
Vestry Meetings
Vestry meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month except for July. All parishioners are welcome to attend the regular Vestry sessions. There is generally a Finance meeting prior to the Vestry meeting, which is also open to parishioners. Please contact the church office to confirm meetings times and dates.
